The ROUTE TO ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

At Torrens University Australia, THINK Education and the Media Design School, we are steadfast in our commitment to the promotion of academic integrity and fostering students’ academic integrity as an integral part of the learning journey. TUA’s, THINK’s and MDS’s Academic Integrity Policy and Academic Integrity Procedure framework guides our institutions’ academic assessment practices, addresses academic integrity and explains the procedures and penalties for academic misconduct.

In order to get this important message out in the public domain and stimulate discussion we asked you, our students, to get involved. You were asked to use your creative powers to highlight the importance of Academic Integrity and you answered the call.

The entries were inspiring and made selecting the winners tough for the judges.

We are very proud to announce that we do have our winners.

VIDEO WINNER!

Bailey WoottonAcademic Misconduct and Academic Integrity

I decided to create a short animation focusing on the main types of academic misconduct, and how avoiding them can improve your overall academic integrity. Through the example of a baking competition, I wanted to outline the different types of misconduct, and briefly explain what they are. These include plagiarism (and self-plagiarism), collusion and cheating. This was a lot of fun to make, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Candice Cooke | Even when No One is Watching

'I wanted to incite thought and positive associations with this artwork. I personally don’t respond well to negative or serious messaging, particularly around a significant topic, so I decided to be playful and lighthearted while getting to the point. This brief had me dissecting and dissecting again what academic integrity means, and I had eventually distilled it down to one well-known quote. “Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching”- C.S Lewis. This quote has made a second come back, emerging in popular meme culture. So I decided this was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of its recent polarization, and apply it to academic messaging. I chose to use the ambiguous phrase “even when no one is watching” to demand the curious attention of the viewer and to stimulate the recollection of the whole quote. I aim to trigger a positive association with meme culture in an attempt to create positive messaging around what academic integrity means to them.I chose to apply the messaging to an image of a tv to play on the words “even when no one is watching”. The choice of imagery aesthetically appeals to my personal design style. The colours are nostalgic, and attract the attention of the viewer, even upon a quick glance. The typography was chosen as a complement to the era of the imagery style.'

'Inspired by Austin Kleon's work and Billy Blue College of Design identity, I choose to use the college's identity color yellow accentuate the key message on Academic integrity. This is bring awareness and introduction of the key topic as the term is not familiar to most.'
